Labor force
A new industry with high-wage jobs has come on strong in greater Portland: renewable energy. Solar manufacturers, in particular, are making a home here, drawing directly from a workforce that’s grown up in the region’s silicon-based electronics industry. This new cluster adds good jobs to a traditional manufacturing sector that includes metals, machinery and transportation equipment.
